Gamifying Music Streaming Through Artist Advocacy

MADISON, WI – January 13, 2019 – The rapidly growing app, LÜM, that combines music streaming with the amplification effects of social media, has launched a virtual gifting system focused on direct-to-artist financial support. The Madison-based tech startup recently closed a $1.4 million seed financing and launched its social media and music streaming app in July 2019. The platform has grown to over 15,000 fans, 22,000 artists and has over 60,000 tracks in its music catalog.

Fans will now be able to use LÜM’s newly created in-app currency to gift their favorite artists. In the music streaming industry, less than 1% of artists earn any material income from fans streaming their music. On LÜM, artists can directly connect with fans and share their music, increasing and monetizing their fanbase all on one platform.

LÜM’s virtual in-app-currency, Notes, can either be bought in-app or earned through streaming music and engaging on the app. LÜM has eight levels of virtual gifts, with each gift representing a specific number of Notes. A Note has a set monetary value that is slightly greater than the royalty payout per stream of other music streaming alternatives. Fans can use LÜM’s virtual gifts to support their favorite artists, earning rewards and achievements along the way.

Current streaming platforms lack the ability for fans to directly support their favorite artists, while crowd-funding platforms lack the necessary incentives to drive fan support. LÜM creates a direct connection between the artists and fans, where artists provide unique content experiences and music to their loyal supporters. Fans can connect with the artists they gift and then compete to be an artist’s top supporter. By gamifying music discovery and enhancing the fan and artist experience, LÜM looks to revolutionize the way music streaming is monetized for artists.

LÜM has also recently partnered with Frank Productions, one of the largest concert promoters in the United States. The partnership looks to explore the relationship between LÜM’s fan and artist data, and its possible uses for live entertainment and other verticals in the music industry.

Playground Gift Will Address Emotional and Developmental Needs

Madison’s historic philanthropic Attic Angel Association turned 130 in 2019 and held a fundraiser all year long to build a playground that will benefit children who experience trauma and other challenges. With the help of the community and a generous couple who provided a large matching gift challenge, nearly $75,000 in donations was raised and presented just before Christmas to The Playing Field early learning center in Madison.

The enormous gift – about 50% larger than planned – was greeted with excitement and gratitude from the children, teachers, parents and board members of the nonprofit child care center. With homeless children representing one-third of its enrollment, The Playing Field seeks to improve society by giving all children the start they deserve instead of letting them fall victim to circumstances. The special playground equipment will address the emotional and development needs of children who experience stress and trauma so that they and their families can learn appropriate coping mechanisms as early as possible.

Intellectual Property and Business Trial Attorney Eli Van Camp Promoted to Partner at DeWitt LLP Law Firm

MADISON | MILWAUKEE | MINNEAPOLIS – DeWitt LLP announced today attorney Eli Van Camp, of its Madison office, has been promoted to Partner status within the firm.

Van Camp is a trial attorney focusing on intellectual property and business litigation. He represents businesses and individuals in patent, trademark, and copyright lawsuits, as well as contract and other commercial disputes.   He has served as lead counsel in multiple jury trials and litigated cases in state and federal courts around the country. 

He earned a J.D. from the University of Oregon School of Law and a B.A., with honors, from the University of Texas at Austin.  Van Camp is admitted to practice in the State Bars of Wisconsin, California, and Oregon.  He is also admitted and has litigated cases in the Western and Eastern Districts of Wisconsin, the Central District of California; the District of Oregon, the Eastern District of Texas, and the U.S. Courts of Appeal for the Federal Circuit and Seventh Circuit.  Prior to joining DeWitt, Van Camp practiced for several years in the Portland, Oregon metropolitan area.

Van Camp is a member of the Wisconsin Intellectual Property Law Association, California Lawyers Association – Intellectual Property Law Section, Oregon State Bar Intellectual Property Section, Madison Downtown Rotary Club and Dane County Bar Association.  Van Camp is a former Adjunct Professor of the University of Wisconsin Law School’s Pre-Trial Advocacy Seminar, and served as Editor-in-Chief of the Oregon Review of International Law and a Moot Court Board Member while attending the University of Oregon School of Law.

State Bank of Cross Plains to Hold Crop Insurance Info Meetings for Wisconsin Farmers

January 9, 2020, EVANSVILLE, Wisconsin—Ahead of the March 16th deadline to purchase crop insurance for the 2020 growing season, State Bank of Cross Plains (some locations formerly UB&T) invites farmers to attend its Crop Insurance Meeting series, to inform their planning for the coming year.
