Overture Galleries: Spring 2017 Exhibition Cycle Now Open

Local Artists’ Exhibitions Feature Mixed Media, Photography and Puppetry

Madison, Wis. – Overture Galleries, free and open to the public, continue Overture Center’s commitment to create a forum for diverse artistic expression that fosters the growth of local artists, curators and arts organizations with the Spring Exhibition Cycle.

The Spring Cycle, which runs through Sunday, June 4 in the three galleries radiating off Rotunda Lobby, features Relevant Shapes: Justin Eccles & Lauren Harlowe; Animalia: Anne & Tim Connor and Rebecca Kautz; and Growing Pains: Alyssa Ackerman & Human Condition/Artist Sanity: DarRen Morris.

Playhouse Gallery features a special exhibition through Sunday, April 9 to celebrate Overture’s First Annual Puppet Festival. A variety of puppets are featured – marionettes, paintings of puppets, a table puppet, shadow puppet videos and more – by artists Felice Amato, Eric Hagstrom, Ken Vogel, Jason Michael Pascoe, Janette Aiello, Jason Levy, Nicole Bresnick, Monica Cliff, Children’s Theater of Madison, First Act Children’s Theater, Susan Nanning-Sorenson, Becky Jenn, Laurie Rossbach and Madison Children’s Museum.

Gallery I – Relevant Shapes: Justin Eccles & Lauren Harlowe
Justin Eccles and Lauren Harlowe interpret the residue of everyday imagery hidden in our unconscious memory. Eccles’ mixed media works entangle illustrations and abstract shapes. Harlowe’s paintings stretch, turn and shift simple designs into complex patterns.
Gallery II – Animalia: Anne & Tim Connor and Rebecca Kautz
Anne and Tim Connor & Rebecca Kautz explore aspects of rural life through representations of domesticated animals. The Connors’ photographic series reveals the beauty and humor of farm life. Kautz’ whimsical paintings draw on regional folklore to illustrate the human condition.
Gallery III – Growing Pains: Alyssa Ackerman & Human Condition/Artist Sanity: DarRen Morris
Ackerman and Morris use portraiture to reveal the emotions of humanity. Ackerman utilizes nontraditional and craft materials to examine human vulnerability and isolation. A former gang member, Morris paints from the wounds of his life in hopes of inspiring young people to better versions of themselves.
