MADISON – Gen. Marcia Anderson, the first African-American woman major general in the history of the U.S. Army, was announced today as a keynote speaker at the Greater Madison Chamber of Commerce’s fourth annual IceBreaker luncheon taking place Thursday, April 12, at the Kohl Center. Two additional IceBreaker speakers will be announced in the coming weeks.

“Gen. Anderson is a dynamic speaker with a compelling story of leadership, passion and courage, and we are thrilled to welcome her to the IceBreaker stage,” said Chamber President Zach Brandon. “This event is deeply rooted in a sense of place, of who we are and where we’re going as a community, as well as the people accelerating Greater Madison into the future. Gen. Anderson and our other speakers will take that to a greater degree.”

During her 36-year military career, Gen. Anderson was committed to improving diversity and equality in the Armed Forces, along the way earning military awards and decorations including the Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Parachutist Badge and Physical Fitness Badge.

Gen. Anderson has a B.A. in Political Science from Creighton University and a J.D. from Rutgers University Law School. She retired from the military in 2016, lives in Verona and works as clerk of courts for U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Western District of Wisconsin in Madison.

Presented by CUNA Mutual Group, the Chamber’s fourth annual IceBreaker will bring together 1,000 current and future business leaders at the only business event on the floor of the Kohl Center. To register, visit here:
