He has created interactive applications for award-winning digital media projects including; The Hall Group, Duke University Athletics, Aurora Healthcare, Manpower Group, Livsreise Heritage Center, Northwestern University, Saudi Aramco, The University Of Wisconsin Madison and Madison College.

Matthew Schuh received his Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from the University of Wisconsin – Madison.

Overture Hosts Poetry Month Events with Opportunities for Students

Featuring OnStage performance by The Mayhem Poets and local Word Power Grand Slam Finals

Madison, Wis. – Overture Center is proud to host poetry-focused events in April, including The Mayhem Poets and the local teen poetry slam Word Power Grand Slam Finals, which will determine the six finalists advancing to a national competition.

The Mayhem Poets | Tuesday, April 25, 2017, at 10 a.m. or 12:30 p.m. | Overture Center – Capitol Theater

  • Both performances are Overture OnStage educational field trip performance for students.

o   Low-cost tickets for the program are subsidized

  • Schools can apply for further subsidies for tickets and transportation

o   10 a.m. is nearly sold out / 12:30 p.m. has availability

o   Teachers receive a resource guide

  • Description: Having been dubbed “an amazing ride” by The New York Times, this mind-boggling performance has been described as “The Simpsons meets Malcolm X at a Notorious B.I.G. concert.” These theatrically trained, comedically-gifted, lyrical virtuosos seamlessly blend raw elements of hip-hop, theater, improv and stand-up comedy to tell gut wrenching truths that leave audiences forever changed.

Word Power Grand Slam Finals | Friday, April 28, 2017, at 7 p.m. | Overture Center – Promenade Hall

  • This event is free and open to the public but space is limited. Seating will be offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Two round poetry slam with 18 Madison student poets in the first round with the top ten advancing to the second round.

o   Students must perform two original poems (maximum three minutes and thirty seconds)

o   Their poems will be judged be a panel of five people on a scale of 0-10 with the highest and lowest scores dropped and the three in the middle added together.

o   Top six students in the slam will earn spots to represent Madison at the Brave New Voices International Poetry Festival in San Francisco, CA.

According to poets.org, National Poetry Month was inaugurated by the Academy of American Poets in 1996. Over the years, it has become the largest literary celebration in the world with schools, publishers, libraries, booksellers and poets celebrating poetry’s vital place in our culture.

Strang Controls Director Earns WELL Credential

Katie Lowery, Director of Integrated Control Systems at Strang, recently received her WELL Building credential.
WELL standards focus on design elements that assure building occupants will be comfortable and healthy in the same way LEED standards focus on qualities that save energy and reduce water use.

The credential is given by the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI), apublic benefit corporation whose mission is to improve human health and well-being in buildings and communities across the world. The IWBI certifiesprojects that meet standards and accredits professionals who pass rigorous testing.

“WELL aligns with our philosophy toward design, and fits with our company culture here. So it’s very fitting for Katie to have earned the credential,” said Strang President & CEO Larry Barton, also a WELL-accredited professional.

Katie earned her Bachelor of Science Degree in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Wisconsin – Madison. She became a LEED-accredited professional in 2012.
